Goodbye 2018: A Year in Review

2018 flew by and I take that as proof that the past year was a fun one.

A goal of mine was to travel more, and 2018 was definitely the year of travel. Staying local, I ventured to Sechelt and Tofino to visit friends and bond with family. Nearby, I flew to Los Angeles for my friend’s bachelorette in Disneyland. To bid farewell to my twenties, I celebrated in Germany and Hungary with my best and oldest friend. To top everything up, I got lost in the magic of Oktoberfest, Austria and Belgium with the love of my life and close friends.

For life events, I witnessed two dear friends start the next chapter of their lives, while Scott and I celebrated two happy years of marriage. I took a much-needed break from performing. Only to return to Luminesque later in the year to dance in one of my favourite performances to date. At work, I grew with my company which saw so many changes this past year. I even got myself a promotion!

2018 also saw the continuation of self discovery that I cherished so much the previous year. I learned a lot about myself and life, such as…

  • I have problems asking for help. However, without help, it’s hard to progress forward, particularly in your career. My manager did a wonderful job building me up and giving me the tools to get on track. I will be forever grateful.
  • As we get older, we must “date” our friends. Things don’t work unless work is put into them. Relationships are no exception.
  • And for those relationships that don’t last – friends can be in your life for a reason or a season. Growing apart doesn’t have to be sad as long as you cherish happy memories.
  • I will not always share the same values or ideals as my parents. While that idea is uncomfortable and I hate to disappoint, that does not make my views wrong or invaluable.
  • I love social media, but sometimes it makes me feel less adequate and creatively paralyzed. I need to shift my perspective and use habits.
  • I am a creator. Expressing that creativity brings me joy and excitement. However, I struggle with follow through. With so many ideas, I need to be focused, disciplined and get better at planning.
  • Life happens beyond your screen. It’s good to take a step back. In fact, it’s so refreshing.

It feels vulnerable to look inward and identify your problems. But, identification is the first step to a solution.

Yes, 2018 was exciting, personally gratifying and full of lessons. And, for some reason, I feel like 2019 is going to be even better. So, what’s up, 2019? I’m ready for you!
