This is 30
This month I celebrated the big 3-0 in Europe with one of my oldest friends. It felt weird to bring in this milestone away from family, my husband and the rest of my friends, BUT I don’t think I’d trade the experience. Sometimes getting away does
With so many friends turning the same age this year, I think 30 carries a weight to it. People think they have to have things “sorted out”, whether that’s a burgeoning career, a long-term relationship, a house, a family, etc. Anything outside of this master plan is considered “falling behind” or failure.
But 30 is nothing to fear. In fact, it’s been quite liberating because, in your 20s you think you know everything, but in your 30s you realize you know nothing!
Of course, you know yourself better, like your strengths and weaknesses. But, you’re wise enough to know that nothing is set in stone, control is an illusion, and “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. You learned that even experts were beginners once and facing your insecurities and discomfort lead to the most growth. In fact, it gets easier to face the next time around. Instead of being scary, the unknown can symbolize opportunity and possibility.
Once you accept yourself and the idea that there is no master plan, things are less rigid and the world opens up. This is 30 and it feels so f*ckin’ good
