If you’ve been watching the news, you know this week has been an emotional roller coaster.
The events surrounding the Black Lives Matters Movement have been inspiring while upsetting. It’s forced many of us to look inward, re-evaluate our own biases and admit that we have gotten things wrong in the past or simply ignored all the prior events and injustices that sparked this display of passion and anger.
And, we’re still in a pandemic. And, it’s my birthday today.
As a POC myself, I am outraged, frustrated, but recognize that my experiences are nowhere near the level of what a black person around the world faces on a daily basis. I want to remain an ally, I want to continue to stick up for others, I want to remain focused on the movement at hand. But, I also want a little break from all the negativity that has been building throughout the year and weighing on my mental health. I think my biggest learning this past year has been the important role that rest plays in our lives.
So today, I’m tapping out, so when I tap back in, I can come back stronger.
Taking a moment to celebrate. This is 32.
